BACCICHETTO VITTORINO: WINES OF THE FRIULIAN RIVIERA

Precenicco:
a noble heritage

LANDS WITH AN ANCIENT AND NOBLE HISTORY

Precenicco, home of Baccichetto Vittorino, was once a Roman port of call along the trade route connecting Aquileia to Ravenna. During the Middle Ages it became a stronghold of the Teutonic Knights, who held it as their feudal domain until the first half of the 17th century. The area surrounding the estate, in Borgo Titiano, still bears remarkable traces of its Roman and medieval past.

A CHURCH ON THE ROAD TO JERUSALEM

Among the many historic landmarks in the surrounding area, one of the most compelling is the Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Snow. Built in the 13th century — possibly on the site of an earlier Byzantine structure — the church long served as a waystation and refuge for pilgrims en route to the Holy Land. On the stone lintel above the entrance portal, the coats of arms of the black-cross knights of the Order of Saint Mary of the Teutons of Jerusalem are still visible today.
